Slack is an web and mobile platform that replaces group email messages. We use it as our internal communication system where we chat, ask questions, and post updates. (Business in the EWC is conducted via our Slack team.)
1. To share big announcements. 📢
If you don't have much time to check in to Slack (we recommend you stop in at least once a week), then definitely check the #announcements channel for important announcements shared by Alden, our Director of Internal Communications.
2. Get more readers. 👀
Expand the reach of your blog in several ways:
3. Read and learn. 💡
Members frequently post thoughtful and provocative articles in #interestingreading, #fashion, #business, #socialjustice and more. Don't be caught flat-footed in one of your posts by a commenter because you haven't kept up with the news!
5. Get a gut check. 🔮
Is it OK that a brand is asking for this thing from you? Is it OK to do XYZ? Tap into the knowledge of 70 creatives to figure out if you're in the right, wrong, or somewhere in between. Ask away!
6. Build relationships with brands. 💪
Starting out and looking for cool brands to feature? Check in #pitches, where members share pitches they've gotten they think you would like. Or, if you get a great pitch that isn't quite right for you, share it here and let the brand know that although you're not featuring them, you've passed it along. If you have a great working experience with, or in those rare cases that you have a bad experience, post the facts of the interaction in #workingwithbrands.
7. Get brand and service recommendations. 💓
What is a good mascara? Running shoe? Photo editing software? Find out by posting in the appropriate channel and ask for DM responses.
8. Meet up IRL. 👋
Look us up when you come to NYC! Meet up in Austin. Plan an event with your homies in LA. Say bonjour in Paris! You've got friends all over the world, now. There are channels for various cities already set up.
9. Collaborate and get business leads. 💌
Need someone to write copy for you? Did you get an email from a brand who's looking for a blogger to work for them? Trying to expand your bylines? The EWC will help you out. Check #freelancewriting and #creative for opportunities.
10. Improve your skills. 🚀
Check #photography, #thebackend, #business, and #resources for how to improve your site. We'll also be holding more #workshops soon. Get your ideas ready because we need teachers, too!
11. Get (and give) discounts and free stuff. 🎉
Members are always sharing giveaways on their own blogs, sales from their favorite brands, and more. Share in #general or in the appropriate topic channel.
